This is an exercise we do with all of our coaching and mentoring clients.  It’s one of the areas we talk about when we’re talking about time.

Time being one of the 6 main areas that every small business and startup – in fact every business or anyone in business – has to master.

The exercise:

first – yourself

Sit down and write in each box:

  1. Things you should do more of.
  2. Things you should do less of.
  3. Things you should start doing.
  4. And things you should stop doing.

It may sound obvious and a bit odd, but it’s worth the effort. The trick is to be honest.

Now

second – your business

Sit down and write in each box:

  1. Things your business should do more of.
  2. Things your business should do less of.
  3. Things your business should start doing.
  4. And things your business should stop doing.

When you’ve done that, review it

and pick one from each box

and do it – or stop doing it – whichever you’ve picked.

Now, in one month review. Have you made even one change? Was trying to do one thing in each box too much, if so, then just pick one thing from one or two boxes.  And what can you add into each box? Then review again in another month and continue to review every month. This way you have an ongoing programme of time management improvements.
